FLINT -- It was a festive spring fling at the Flint Institute of Arts Saturday evening to raise funds for the Whaley Children's Center.

Dozens of community members attended the annual gala.  Currently the Whaley Children's Center serves 48 children.  Each year, the center treats about a hundred children for severe emotional and behavioral disorders due to abuse.

The gala allows the non-profit to close the funding gap left after state grants.

"The need is growing out there, for children who don't have families, or children who've been severely abused and neglected.  This is some of Michigan's most fragile population, and it really takes the community to rally around these children,” said Kevin Roach, president and CEO of the Whaley Children’s Center.

Money raised Saturday will go toward renovating bedrooms, and expanding Whaley's clinical programs and services.
