FREELAND -- High winds packed a punch for one Freeland family Sunday morning.

Jeff McGregor woke up to a loud “boom” after storms moved through around 9:30 a.m., and discovered his old willow tree had been knocked down.

The tree destroyed this wooden tree fort McGregor built for his young daughter.  It’s a $500 loss, but McGregor says, a blessing in disguise.  The fort took the impact, sparing the house of any major damage.

"I just built this thing two weeks ago, and she had a big princess swing set,” McGregor said, referring to daughter Riley.

“Yeah, but that's OK, we'll build another one, right?" he assured her.

Sunday morning’s storms knocked out power to thousands of households in Bay, Midland and Saginaw counties.
