Our morning talker for Friday comes to us from the Big Apple where the mayor has a new target in his fight against the city's obesity problem.
The New York Times says Michael Bloomberg wants to ban those super-sized soft drinks available at fast food restaurants, arenas and movie theaters.
Under the proposal, the sale of sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces would be prohibited.
That would include energy drinks, pre-sweetened iced teas and sodas.
The New York Beverage Association says, "the city isn't going to address the obesity issue by attacking soda because soda is not driving the obesity rates."
If the ban goes through, it would take effect in March and would the be first of its type in the nation.
The measure would not apply to diet sodas, fruit juices, dairy-based drinks like milkshakes, or alcoholic beverages; it would not extend to beverages sold in grocery or convenience stores.
