UM-Flint will receive an 8% budget increase, the second largest increase among Michigan's 15 public universities.
FLINT -- With all of the budget cutting and economic downturning taking place in Michigan and around the country, there was some good news for the University of Michigan-Flint this week.
The university will receive the second biggest budget increase among the state's 15 public universities. Saginaw Valley State University is the only public school to receive a larger budget increase than UM-Flint.
"We've had some improvements in three key areas that the state has identified as particularly important," said UM-Flint spokeswoman Jen Hogan. "Those areas include graduation rates, retention rates and degrees awarded in the health professions and STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math."

UM-Flint has met certain state guidlines, meaning they'll see an increase in funding of nearly eight percent starting on October 1.
Tuition rates will be discussed June 21 and although the school has not given any indication how much the rates could go up, a boost in state appropriations could help keep tuition down.
