Chime in now!

Starting on July 1st, tobacco smokers won't be able to get a job at a Detroit hospital.

New hires at the Detroit Medical Center will be tested for nicotine, beginning a it's a nation-wide trend that's taking root in the medical community in Detroit.

However, the announcement that the health system will start a no nicotine hiring policy has current employees on edge.

Thus far, 29 states have adopted laws that protect the employment rights of smokers but Michigan is not one of them, which leaves smokers without any legal grounds to challenge the hiring policy.

We are asking our facebook fans this morning if they feel this is an unconstitutional act? Should the Detroit Medical Center be allowed to prevent hiring potential employees based on tobacco preferences?  Or should Michigan come up with a law protecting the working rights of smokers?  Chime in now!
