LANSING (AP) -- The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality says five organizations in the state will be getting nearly $250,000 for projects that focus on the disposal of unused household drugs.

The Community Pollution Prevention grants are designed to increase public access to free drug collection programs and to help develop successful disposal programs that can be implemented in other areas of the state.

The organizations receiving awards include the Macomb County Health Department, the Crawford County Commission on Aging, the Ingham County Health Department and the Kent County Department of Public Works. In addition, the DEQ says the Great Lakes Clean Water Organization has been awarded $77,125.

Grant recipients are required to match the state funds by at least 25 percent.
