***Update***

Funeral services for Tara Sturgis are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30 at the Dryer Funeral Home in Holly.  Visitation will be from 2 – 9 p.m. Friday and from 12 p.m. until the time of service Saturday.

The spokeswoman for the Humane Society of Genesee County has died. Authorities say Tara Sturgis died over the weekend following a motorcycle accident. Sturgis was riding on the backseat of a motorcycle when it was hit by another vehicle. She was wearing a helmet.

Sturgis became the face of the Humane Society of Genesee County. Every other Friday, she appeared on NBC 25 Today. She always brought along a dog or cat that needed a home.

Sturgis was a strong advocate for dogs and cats in our area. She was "out front" on many events that impacted the agency, including "Paws on Parade", their largest fundraiser of the year.

All of us at NBC 25 are saddened by Tara's loss. We extend our condolences to her family.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
