Patrolling area streets, early in the morning until late at night, is the 12 hour commitment Flint police are now making everyday to tackle crime.
Robert Weisenhaute has been living in Flint all of his life and said he understands the need for change."I managed to get mugged in downtown Flint on Sagiaw Street on a week day afternoon," said Weisenhaute.
5 years ago there were almost 300 police officers on the force responding to 911 calls, such as Weisenhaute’s, now there is only 120 officers that can help.
"I got up and ran after the guy yelling Thief hoping to flag down a cop, but they were all busy," said Weisenhaute.
To help with response time, Flint is now separated into four districts and every officer is assigned to one.
Commanders hope redistributing resources, creating more officers on the street at any given time will help them provide the ultimate service.
"It’s a great way to start things in our community. I hope it changes a lot."
State Police are also getting involved. They are creating a task force to help flint study when where crime is happening.
