Nearly 1.5 million people are expected to hit the road to vacation Fourth of July.

AAA Michigan says that's up 16 percent from 2011 and the highest number of projected state travelers since 2008.

The auto club also says there is an increased demand to get away, especially during a mid-week holiday.

The average distance Americans will travel this week is just over 700 miles.
