FLINT -- The City of Flint is pleased to announce the receipt of a Mott Foundation grant in the amount of $743,000 to support community policing in the city’s neighborhoods.

The grant provides funding for 11 police officer positions for six months.

"The Flint Police Department is grateful to the Mott Foundation for their support," said Flint Police Chief Alvern Lock.

Chief Lock went on to emphasize that “this grant will be used to strengthen our community policing efforts in our neighborhoods.”

The grant will also assist the City of Flint in implementation of its new Public Safety Plan, which includes 5 mini-stations throughout the 4 newly established policing districts. It also will support the coordination of an advisory council comprised of judges, prosecutors, sheriff and other regional law enforcement officials.

"The grant will allow us to continue a research component through an ongoing partnership with the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice," said Flint Emergency Manager Mike Brown.

Public Safety Administrator Barnett Jones also expressed gratitude to the Mott Foundation, adding “this grant will give us much needed short term support as we develop long term revenue options for public safety.”
