FLINT -- A Mt. Morris Township man pleaded no contest to charges that he beat his girlfriend's six-month-old daughter.

Bradley Cottier, 27, entered his plea on a charge of assault with harm less than murder on Tuesday in front of Genesee Circuit Judge Archie Hayman.

He was originally charged with first-degree child abuse.

The incident occurred on February 24.

A press release sent out by prosecutors said that "while Cottier is not the father of the child in this case, they all lived together and he was often left to attend to the baby while his girlfriend was away,"

According to officials, Cottier often took out his anger he had towards his girlfriend by abusing the baby.  Police also say that abuse caused fractures and bruises and the beatings occurred on more than one occasion.

Cottier's sentencing is expected on August 13.
