Most people do not get the opportunity to get a free cholesterol screening, dental check and weight loss information. Well, Saturday those things were free and lots more.
Pastor Patrick Sanders an organizer of the event said, "we got to take care of our own selves before someone else can help us."
Along with other organizers, they put together a health, wellness, fitness and empowerment fair at Flint's Community Outreach for Family and Youth Center off E. Carpenter Road.
More than 1,000 people took advantage of free blood pressure screenings, HIV testing, healthy cooking demonstrations and more.
Veterans also had a booth provided just for them.
"We are giving out laundry bags filled with essential items and goods that hopefully a lot of veterans in this area needs. Things like socks, tooth brush, tooth paste, t-shirt [and] a blanket. We are also giving information about the services that our organization in Washington D.C. provides on a national level," Reagan Rivers an employee for the Disabled Veterans National Foundation.
The expo also provided free grocery distribution to qualified low income individuals.
