LONDON -- Flint native Claressa Shields, at 17 years old, has become the first woman to win gold in the middleweight boxing division with a 19-12 decision over Russia's Nedezda Torlopova.

Shields and Torlopova were tied 3-3 after the first round.

Shields then took the lead 10-7 after two rounds. She would then increase her lead to 15-10 following the third round of action. And she never looked back, winning the gold medal in the first ever women's middleweight boxing competition.

She is the second youngest boxer to ever win a gold medal at the Olympics.
