Flint's White Horse Tavern
To call it a "Flint watering hole", would do it injustice.
The White Horse Tavern on Court Street has been around almost 40 years. It's a place to be seen by politicians, the buisness community and the media. While it's known for it's pizzas, it make a darn good burger.
Just ask former President Bill Clinton.
According to White Horse owner Chris Poulos, Clinton ordered some burgers when Air Force One landed in Flint a few years back. Poulos, who's family has been operating the establishment since 1973, says they use strictly Black Angus beef for his burgers. And they don't squish them down too hard on the grill. That takes all the flavor out.
Poulus has served senators, community leaders and the average Joel. (!) It's the mix of people that he loves.
And boy does he love telling stories! On many nights, he can be found behind the bar serving thirsty patrons. If you want to know what's REALLY going on in Flint, just ask Poulos.
He's proud of his Greek heritage. But wouldn't say whether they'll add some greek specialties anytime soon.
"You'll just have to wait and see", says Polous.
