CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- First Lady Michelle Obama helped kick off the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., Tuesday. Her speech focused more on biography than on policy differences between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney.
Mrs. Obama is seeking to make the case that actions her husband took as president reflect his desire to help others live the American dream. She cited payroll tax cuts and efforts to help the auto industry as examples of his looking out for working families.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro were among the other headlining speakers Tuesday night.
