Although she's just a teenager, Tori Ervin of Bendle High School appears to have more on her mind than boys.  She knows her food, too.

Tori won the Next Urban Chef competition, that promotes healthy cooking and choosing local foods. The Flint Farmers’ Market, in partnership with the Crim Fitness Foundation and Mott Community College Culinary Arts Program, will hosted the event.  The 2012 contestants were Tori and Paul Lewis from Northwestern High School.

The Next Urban Chef competition began as a part of the Detroit-Flint Regional Food System (Metropolitan Agriculture) team.   Each participant has been working with Chef Douglas St. Souver and Chef Nate Brown throughout the summer.    For more information, please contact the Crim Fitness Foundation at 810-235-3396.

Tori makes a mean Skillet Chircken. Here's her winning recipe:

1/2 bundle asparagus

2 small/or 1 large chicken breast

1/2 large apple

1 butternut squash

1/2 chopped onion

2 redskinned potatoes

Sauce:

1 sick of butter

1 cup of milk

tablespoon mashed onion

salt and pepper to taste.

Enjoy!
