On Monday, McDonald's will begin listing calorie information on its menus in more than 14,000 restaurants and drive thrus.
The move is sparked by consumers and activists who continue to pressure the fast food industry to improve quality and share more nutritional facts.
"It's the right thing to do," senior vice president of menu innovation for McDonald's Greg Watson said to USA Today. "It's what a leader would do."
The restaurant chain's posting of calories is so they will comply with a new national rule that will come into effect within the next year. The rule requires restaurants to clearly post calories and other nutritional information.
McDonald's isn't stopping here, either, says Watson. It plans more seasonal fruit and veggie options, such as blueberries and cucumbers. And it's testing an egg-white breakfast sandwich on a whole grain English muffin.
