SAGINAW -- The shooting death of a homeless Saginaw man in July continues to incite anger among groups calling for more police accountability.

Last week, the Saginaw County prosecutor announced no criminal charges will be filed against the six police officers involved in the shooting death of Milton Hall, but the decision didn't end continued calls for more investigation.

Monday evening, Milton Hall's mother, Jewel Hall, joined elected officials to tell people she's not ending her quest for justice.

U.S. Rep. John Conyers (D-Detroit) listened to testimony from witnesses of the July 1 shooting, and told community members at Word of Faith church in Saginaw that he’s working to secure grant funding to better educate and train police.

“I want to find out how we in Washington, in Detroit, and those civil rights organizations around the country can he helpful in helping Saginaw in this terrible situation that is occurring," Rep. Conyers said.

Jewel Hall again thanked community members for their continued support following her son’s death.  She said she received a call from the Detroit district office of the U.S. Department of Justice about an independent investigation of the shooting.

"It's important to those of us who are committed to justice for all people to act swiftly to halt these police killings.  It’s only through community involvement and leadership that true justice in these killings will emerge."

State Rep. Stacy Erwin Oakes (D-Saginaw) was also present Monday.  She said she plans to introduce legislation this week to establish mental health courts in Michigan, to help deal with the mentally ill and prevent similar incidents in the future.
