Flint plants honored
Kermit the frog is famous for saying, "it's not easy being green". General Motors can boast, oh yes it is.
GM says it received environmental awards from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Among the winners: GM Flint Assembly, where the Chevy Silverado is made. Also the nearby Flint Metal Center. The plants were cited for energy efficiency, resource preservation and waste reduction. According to GM spokesman Tom Wickham, staff members at the plant monitored the Flint River and celebrated Earth and Arbor Day. They also helped the plants become landfill free, contributing no waste to Flint area landfills.
The winning plants worked with the Flint River Watershed Coalition, Carman Ainsworth H.S., Davison Middle School, Flint Classical Academy, Dillon Elementary, Rankin Elementary School and other organizations.
"General Motors is focused on improving the communities where our employees work, live and play with their families," said Levon (Lee) Hachigian, director of environment and sustainability, GM Real Estate and Facilities. "Talking to our neighbors and collaborating with various environmental organizations in the cities where we operate allows us to spread our environmental knowledge and inspire more eco-friendly action."
