PONTIAC -- General Motors is considering expanding its Global Powertrain Engineering Headquarters in Pontiac.

The city has approved a tax abatement for the automaker that Pontiac says would create 300 jobs.

The 12-year tax abatement, plus three years for construction, would need approval from a state commission.

A GM spokeswoman says the company has explored incentives related to a possible expansion but hasn't decided on whether to move forward.
