FLINT -- It is National Bullying Prevention month and Genesee County is boosting awareness about the dangers of bullying.

Genesee County Commissioner, Brenda Clack, the YWCA,  Flint Community Schools and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. hosted a countywide bullying, texting and sexting workshop Saturday.

The theme was Prevent Teen Violence and Abuse by Addressing Bullying, Texting and Sexting.

Leaders say they hope education will prevent this nation-wide issue.

"We have had incidents where young people have taken their lives because they could not contend with bullying so the more education people can get the more people can identify bullying," says Genesee County Commissioner, Brenda Clack.

National Bullying Prevention month began in 2006 as just a week of awareness.
