Says Stabenow refuses to debate

FLINT -- Former Republican Congressman Pete Hoekstra visited Flint on Wednesday evening in a last minute attempt to shore up some votes trailing in the polls to Sen. Debbie Stabenow with just 5 days remaining until the election.

Hoekstra told NBC25 that the event, which was hosted by the Frederick Douglas Society and took place at Riverfront Residence Hall in Flint, was intended to be a debate with Debbie Stabenow but she didn't show.  Stabenow's camp says she wasn't invited.

Hoekstra says the Senator doesn't want to talk about her poor economic record.  Stabenow's camp told NBC25 that she was not invited to the invent and has that the Senator has been traveling all over the state campaigning in recent days.

Members of the audience asked questions of the US Senate candidate who says Stabenow doesn't want to answer for her economic record.  The Stabenow campaign said the Senator was not available for comment.
