SAGINAW COUNTY -- Saginaw County is cracking down on underage tobacco and alcohol sales.

A state-funded health grant is partnering health officials with law enforcement to prevent the sale of alcohol and tobacco products to minors.

Just this year, the Saginaw Sheriff's Department has given 63 citations to the nearly 400 county businesses checked.

Officials say the initiative is making a positive impact locally and across the state.

"This year has been the has been the lowest it's been in five years, we're at 10.7 percent," Amy Nurawski, Department of Public Health official said.

Officials also say they plan to continue the project.
