Firearm deer hunting season begins

It's the one day of the year you can hear the sunrise in Michigan. Firearm deer hunting season starts at sunrise Thursday.

The season runs from Nov. 15-30. Some hunters are worried about the combination of warm conditions and too few deer.  Last year about 675,000 hunters scoured the woods across the state.

Deer hunters would like a little tracking snow, and up north they may find some. The DNR will have special check-stations to check the deer for disease. It's a big deal for hunters and for others as well. Schools, especially in northern Michigan should see a drop in attendance tomorrow.

Some students get " pre-excused" for deer hunting. And shoppers love this time of year, too. Birch Run Premium outlets, for example cater to "deer widows" with special deals.
