The youngest serving Flint city councilman is giving up his seat.

First Ward Councilman Delrico Loyd told NBC25 he handed in his resignation letter as the council president on Wednesday.

Loyd said he is stepping down for a number of reasons, including the homicide of his half-brother and death of his adoptive grandmother.

He also recently accepted a position at his church and serves as an international rep for the UAW.

Loyd was appointed to the council in 2008.
