LANSING -- Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway is expected to make her first public appearance since the federal government accused her of bank fraud.

The Supreme Court is holding a public hearing Wednesday in Lansing on the use of cameras in court and other issues. Hathaway and husband Michael Kingsley are not charged with crimes, but the government is seeking to take their Florida home.

A lawsuit filed last week in Detroit federal court says the couple hid the property from a bank by temporarily transferring it to a relative. In 2010, Hathaway and Kingsley were trying to persuade a bank to allow a short sale on another home they couldn't afford in Grosse Pointe Park.

The short sale erased $600,000 in mortgage debt.
