SAGINAW COUNTY -- A major mid-michigan thoroughfare is slated to undergo construction next spring.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) aims to reconstruct a four-mile stretch of north and southbound I-75 between the two I-675 junctions which includes the Zilwaukee Bridge.
Community members were invited to an informational meeting in Zilwaukee on Wednesday night where MDOT officials explained the project.
The work will include replacing bearing pads on the bridge that have been worn down over the decades.
"I-75 is a significant corridor, including the Zilwaukee bridge, for trade, for tourism, for travel. And so we want to make sure that we do our best to ensure that we're ensuring the structural integriticy of the Zilwaukee bridge and of the roadway, the highway in general," MDOT Spokeswoman Anita Richardson said.
Work on the bridge will begin in April 2013. The entire construction project is expected to finish sometime in 2015.
