MOUNT PLEASANT (AP) -- A company in Mount Pleasant is the 180th to be designated a "clean corporate citizen" by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

The DEQ announced Wednesday that American Mitsuba Corporation had won the award.

Companies chosen for the program must have environmental management systems, active pollution prevention initiatives, and a consistent record of compliance with state and federal environmental requirements.

Assistant Plant Manager Mike Goin said American Mitsuba employs approximately 234 people.

Its primary manufacturing processes in Mount Pleasant include stamping, plastic injection molding, armature assembly, and assembly of starter motors and cooling fan motors.
