MONROE (AP) -- Hundreds of people have attended two candlelight vigils for an Eastern Michigan University student whose death is being investigated for possible foul play.

The Monroe Evening News and WWJ-AM report that about 200 people gathered in 23-year-old Julia Niswender's hometown of Monroe Friday evening. AnnArbor.com and WXYZ-TV report a similar number attended a student-organized vigil on Eastern Michigan's campus in Ypsilanti.

Friends and family members recalled her infectious smile and positive, persistent attitude.

Niswender's body was found Tuesday in her off-campus apartment bedroom. An autopsy was performed, but police say the cause of death is pending until more tests are finished.

Investigators were treating the case as a homicide.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. Monday at Redeemer Fellowship Church in Monroe.
