MID-MICHIGAN -- School districts across the state are taking extra precautions as students head to to school this week.

In the Flushing School District, officials told parents in a letter that Flushing City Police and the Genesee County Sheriff's Department will provide "an enhanced level of attention".

According to a Flint Community Schools spokesman, the district is reminding teachers, faculty, and staff members to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity in and around school grounds.

Flint Comminty Schools also told NBC25 they will be issuing a point of communication via an automated phone system that will alert parents to be aware of suspicious activity and to report it immediately.
