FLINT -- A local state representative has announced he'll run for a seat in the opposing chamber.

Democrat Jim Ananich of Flint is the first candidate to announce a run for the state seat being vacated by Senator John Gleason.  Gleason can no longer serve because of a term limit.

Gleason was elected Genesee County Clerk in November and plans to resign next month from the Senate.

Ananich would run in a special election.

"I would like the opportunity to serve more constituents in Genesee County and the senate. You know I have had a track record of getting things done in Lansing even in a pretty partisan environment," said Ananich.

The winner of the special election would serve out the rest of Gleason's term which expires in 2014.
