FLINT -- On a cold Friday morning, Tiffany courts managed to get the whole family in to the North End Soup Kitchen in Flint for a hot lunch.  With three little girls, a niece and a nephew, that's no easy task.

“Had to wipe off the cars and get it warmed up and drive slowly," Courts said.

For Courts, meal time at the soup kitchen is family time.  The stay-at-home mother spends almost $400 a month on groceries alone and a free meal goes a long way.

“It helps out a lot,” she said.

And she said it makes her feel good to know her children are well-fed.

Catholic Charities has helped Courts and her family out over the past two years, not only with meals but also with clothing and other necessities.

During the holidays, Courts can really use the extra help.

This Christmas, she’ll be back with her children and give thanks for all the volunteers and staff who make sure everyone has a warm place to sit down and break bread.

“They do a good job down here,” Courts said.
