Saginaw Animal Shelter offers weekend hours

Dogs and cats are finding a home just before the holidays as business hours change for the Saginaw Animal Shelter.

"We wanted to do something right before the holidays. A lot of families are out there looking for a new addition to the family for Christmas," director Kevin Wilken said.

Opening for the weekend is made possible by the shelter's volunteer staff.  Many help out during the week and jumped at the change to help this weekend.

"I do it because I absolutely love being with the animals and I've been volunteering at the Saginaw shelter for about a year," volunteer Stacey Rutherford said.

Efforts from volunteers are making more adoptions possible.  In the past the shelter has struggled getting the majority of animals into a permanent home, however they are working to change that.

On Saturday, many families left happy.
