FLINT -- A group of UM-Flint students are trying to bring some much needed health services to the underserved in our community.

It’s called the PT HEART clinic, and for almost a year now, health education and physical therapy masters students have been offering a free clinic every week.

Patients can get comprehensive health education – from healthy eating tips to tips on how to quit smoking.  On Friday the program celebrated the official start of physical therapy services.

Leaders thanked HealthPlus of Michigan for an inaugural grant of $4,500 that helped get the clinic started.

Health education student Jessica Sloan said, “Although we do have internships thus provided students to be able to come in and sit down with a real patient and be able to talk about real life issues.

“We're trying to fill the gaps in flint we're trying to help the community by creating a healthier community.”

The PT HEART clinic is open every Friday year round from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Flint’s North End Soup Kitchen.
