FENTON -- Hockey players took to Barnum Pond for the second annual Lake Fenton classic with hopes to lift the Des Crowley memorial cup.

"It's going to be cool, they have a trophy in there it's a big keg. You get your name on it so it's cool to come out and play,” said player Chris Joncas.

2013's record participation is being attributed to rekindling old rivalries and childhood friendship.

"Seeing all my old friends I get to run into buddies of mine I haven't seen in ten years and I used to play with when i was a kid," said Jay St. John

"It's just great, everything from just guys who want to come out and have fun to guys that are very serious about this game,” said event director Sean Lapham.

Off the ice, the winter classic is donating to the Griffin's, the local boys hockey team.

"It's nice to give them two thousand dollars for their program to keep promoting hockey for the future.” said event director Steve MacDermaid.

Warm temperatures slowed down their skates Saturday, but with a wisp of cool air Sunday morning players enjoyed quick ice and a bit of snow.

"That's what it's all about. Being outside you got wind blowing in your face and pucks flying everywhere,” said St. John

With this years success event coordinators are looking forward to a larger turnout next year.
