MT. PLEASANT -- An Isabella County teenager and his 11-year-old sister received “lifesaving” awards Tuesday evening, after they helped a Central Michigan University student who was sexually assaulted last month.

Fourteen-year-old James Persyn III and his sister, Acelin, were in their Lincoln Township home when the CMU student from the Grand Rapids area came looking for help.  She claimed she had been abducted and raped.  James and Acelin let her into their home and hid with her until authorities arrived.

The suspected attacker, Eric Ramsey, fled police and was eventually shot and killed by police.

Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski presented them the awards at the board of commissioners meeting.
