Teen charged with murder of man in Mt. Morris

FLINT -- A Flint teen has been charged with the fatal shooting on Saturday night of a man in Mt. Morris Township.

17-year-old Darshaun Demond shot and killed Lavantez Phipps, 21, at his home on Nasser Street off Coldwater Road during an armed robbery on Saturday according to the Genesee County Prosecutor's office.

The Genesee County Prosecutor said Demond is being charged with five felonies.

Those five counts are Open Murder, Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felony Firearm.

Felony Murder carries with it a possible punishment of life without possibility of parole.

The teenager has been arraigned in 67th District Court on all counts and is being  lodged in the Genesee County Jail.

His pre-trial hearing scheduled for Friday morning.
