LAPEER (AP) -- Rain is leading to ice in some parts of Michigan, closing schools in rural areas and knocking out electricity.

Consumers Energy says hundreds of people lost power in downtown Flint Friday morning. Lapeer schools in Lapeer County told kids to stay home because rural roads are too slick. The weekend also is starting early for some schools in the Thumb as well as in Isabella, Clare, Oakland and Mecosta counties.

Despite the slippery roads, the weather is expected to turn much warmer in much of Michigan this weekend with high temperatures in the 50s.
