Miracle drink or just good vitamins?

A trio from Flushing sings the praises of wheatgrass. And they'll sell you a shot for 3 bucks. But some in the medical community question some of its reported health benefits.

The owners of City Shop Cafe say wheatgrass is an excellent nutritional source, full of vitamins. Tom Whitmire, Kelly Miller and Brent LaPonsey love the stuff, saying it's mostly chlorophyll. It makes the body "healthy and strong". While few question wheatgrass is a great source of vitamins and antioxidants, its medical benefits are subject to debate.

Web MD says "despite all the health claims, there is very little, if any evidence that wheatgrass actually works to prevent disease, detoxify or offers any of the other cures attributed to it".

Still there are benefits, so Whitmire is sponsoring a class about it, on January 15, in a classroom behind the cafe. For more information, check out his website at Aloha@AlohaCode.com
