FLINT -- Firefighters battled six fires overnight in the city of Flint. Fire officials suspect all of the fires to be the work of arsonists.

"Stop, just stop," says Michelle Rose. She's just one of the neighbors along Mabel Avenue who are sick and tired of the fires. Nine fires have been set across the city of Flint since Tuesday.

"You know it's arson. There's nobody been living in that home for years, so you know it's arson." Rose adds.

Battalion Chief John Babb agrees. The fires are the work of arsonists.

"All suspicious in nature, all in vacant buildings," says Babb.

While the homes are indeed vacant, the fires are still dangerous because homeless people live in some of the abandonded buildings.

"It's a shame because we've got street people who have no place to go and they're living in houses with no windows, no doors and this could happen to one of these houses and there could be someone in these houses," says Mike Shaffer of Mabel Avenue.

It's also a problem for firefighters. Freezing temperatures make battling these blazes more difficult.

"It puts an incredible demand on the firefighters themselves both physically and psychologically when you're going fire to fire to fire," says Babb.

"They need to stop and think about what they're doing. You know? If they want to spend the rest of their life in jail, then I guess that's what they want to do," says Rose.

Firefighters say if you see something, say something. The number to call is 810-237-6924
