GENESEE TOWNSHIP -- Genesee County authorities are looking for a 19-year-old fisherman who went missing on Mott Lake Tuesday night.

MLive reported on Wednesday that families have identified the missing man as Trenton Dobrzenski.

Two fishermen went out Tuesday night, only one returned home after their boat overturned.

The Mott Lake search in Genesee Township is challenging because of the underwater hazards like tree roots.

It was also dark when it started, keeping dive teams from getting into the water.

His family and friends are holding onto hope that he could still be alive.

Wednesday morning, a dive team assembled to look for the fisherman whose boat overturned Tuesday night.

He and another man went out around 9:30 pm in a small, roughly 10-foot boat that investigators believe could have been weighed down too much.

Genesee County Parks Commission Ranger Chief Kevin Shanlian says, "They both were out of the boat talking. They started to get the vest on. They were sharing it and then the person missing struggled more. He gave the other person involved the vest and he was able to swim ashore that's the last they seen each other."

Crews search the shore and the water hoping to find him, also checking with his family and friends to see if he showed up at home.

He's described as strong and a good swimmer, but he was wearing a heavy jacket in a 3,000 acre waterway that stretches from Carpenter Road to Lapeer County.

"He had a life jacket on one arm, so we are holding on to some hope. We're doing physical searches as we speak," says Shanlian.

Rescue teams say anyone who goes out in the water should be wearing a life jacket.

They say the fishermen had life jackets, but that they were not easy to get to. They were found underneath the overturned boat along with some personal items.

"Where your vest," says Shanlian. "It doesn't do you any good if you can't get to it and that's what happened here."

Rescue dogs are assisting the search now as well as a Michigan State Police chopper, the Civil Air Patrol, and around 20 volunteers.

They're asking people to stay away from the area while they search, and if you see someone matching the description, call police.
