BIRCH RUN -- MDOT crews are preparing for what will likely be a long night on area roadways.

Traffic in Birch Run was moving smoothly around 6 p.m.

MDOT representatives said crews are working around the clock doing everything they can to make the commute safe for drivers.  Drivers are advised to go slow and be prepared to see salt trucks and plows on the road.

“We are committed to make sure that the roads are safe for motorists.  We have crews working around the clock and we are going to clear the roads completely of ice and snow on our priority routes and then on our priority two routes we will make sure that the roads are passable,” said MDOT spokeswoman Anita Richardson.
