General Motors recalled more than 475,000 Chevy Cruzes

BIRCH RUN -- General Motors has recalled more than 475,000 Chevy Cruze compact cars after more than two dozen engine fires.

The automaker says a plastic engine shield in models built from September 2010 to May 2012 is not allowing engine fluids to drain, leading to the fires.

GM will begin sending out recall instructions July 11th, but workers at Suski Chevrolet-Buick in Birch Run say they are willing to make repairs now by appointment.

"There's only been two cars that have completely burned so it's a very, very small risk. Bring the car in and you can get it taken care of," salesman Stuart Waitman said.

Repairs take around 30 minutes.

Mechanics will create a crack in the shield, allowing fluids to drain out.
