ROYAL OAK (AP) -- Beaumont Hospitals officials say the suburban Detroit medical system is creating a new 112-bed children's hospital using existing facilities at its Royal Oak campus.

Beaumont Children's Hospital will serve as a pediatric teaching hospital for the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, expected to open next year.

Officials said Wednesday the children's hospital includes 40 beds for general pediatrics, eight beds for intensive care and 64 beds for neonatal intensive care in Royal Oak. It also includes pediatric beds at Beaumont's Grosse Pointe and Troy hospitals.

Beaumont says the children's hospital offers 36 pediatric subspecialties and 83 pediatric sub-specialists, a children's surgical team and about 200 board-certified pediatricians.
