FLINT -- Genesee Shiawassee Michigan Works! and the Career Alliance, Inc. is hosting a Summer Youth Employment Recruitment Fair for youth ages 14 through 24 on May 30, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will take place at Mott Community College's Regional Technology Center (RTC).
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has provided Career Alliance with an extraordinary opportunity to place approximately 900 youth and young adults into meaningful employment opportunities throughout Genesee and Shiawassee counties. The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) connects youth/young adults to employment opportunities at nonprofit agencies. An example of summer employment opportunities include clerical assistance, senior aid assistance, summer camp workers and more.
The Summer Youth Employment Program strives to provide a meaningful work experience for those who qualify.
Eligibility requirements include:
- ·Must be 14 to 24 years of age
- ·U.S. resident of Genesee or Shiawassee Counties
- ·Registered with selective service (if applicable)
- ·Low income
Trained professionals from the SYEP will help determine eligibility. Older youth between the ages of 18 and 24, especially veterans, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Agencies attending the fair on May 30th include Baker College of Flint, Flint Community Schools, Genesee County Community Action Resource Department, Greater Flint Health Coalition, Metro Community Development, Mott Community College, STRIVE and the Urban League of Flint.
