(AP) -- GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - It's butterfly season at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids. The "Butterflies Are Blooming" exhibition opens Monday and runs through April 30. Visitors can escape the cold Michigan winter to stroll through the temporary tropical exhibit at the Lena Meijer Conservatory.

Each week, hundreds of chrysalises are delivered to Meijer Gardens for the display. They're placed in an area where people can watch butterflies emerge. Then the butterflies later are released into the conservatory. In all, more than 6,000 butterflies are expected to appear.

The exhibit is open Mondays and Wednesday through Sundays. It's Meijer Gardens' most popular annual exhibition.
