(AP) -- The first major organized labor endorsement in Michigan's race for governor has gone to Democrat Andy Dillon.
Dillon received an endorsement Thursday from the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council. The group represents nearly 100,000 workers statewide.
Most large Michigan labor unions have not yet endorsed a candidate for governor.
Dillon is the speaker of the Michigan House. He is from Redford Township in Wayne County.
Other Democrats seeking the party's nomination to run for governor this year are Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and state Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith of Washtenaw County's Salem Township.
Five Republicans are in the governor's race.
