(AP) -- Michigan State Police have increased patrols around the home of U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak, who has received obscene and threatening calls since he voted for the health care overhaul. Two other Michigan Democrats who voted for the legislation, Reps. Mark Schauer of Battle Creek and Gary Peters of Bloomfield Township, also have reported threats.
First Lt. Karen McCormack, commander of the state police post in Stephenson, tells the Detroit Free Press that troopers will increase drive-by patrols of Stupak's home in Menominee in the southern Upper Peninsula.
Schauer got a message Thursday from a caller saying he hoped he "dies a slow death at a very young age." A spokesman for Peters says he got "several ominous and tasteless calls" and one from Alabama saying Peters should "watch his back."
