Genesee Township and Michigan State Police are investigating who is responsible for burning a home in the 1000 block of Wisner.
Police say they are waiting for crime lab results to determine how the blaze started. They are also hoping that witnesses come forward.
In the meantime, the homeowner, 33-year-old Jamie Schaffer, said she knows who is responsible for setting her home on fire. "My ex-boyfriend burned my house down," Schaffer said.
She said her ex-boyfriend broke into her home last Thursday evening, beat her, and threatened to kill her. Just a few days after this incident, she said her home was set ablaze.
Police say her ex-boyfriend is a person of interest, but the investigation is on-going and no one has been charged.
Schaffer was not in the home at the time of the fire; however, the family lost four kittens and a dog to the blaze.
Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact the Michigan State Police tip line at 1-800-44-ARSON. A $5,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest and conviction.
