(AP) -- DETROIT - A former Detroit-area prep hockey coach has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for making child pornography.
Robert Bopp is the former coach at Grosse Pointe South High School. He's also a member of the Michigan hall of fame for hockey coaches.
The Taylor man pleaded guilty in November to producing child pornography. The federal crime grew out of a local investigation of Bopp paying a teen boy for oral sex.
Prosecutors called him a child predator. Bopp apologized while appearing in federal court Monday. He eventually will appear in Wayne County Circuit Court to accept a plea deal in his sexual assault case.
Bopp was fired at Grosse Pointe South after he was charged nearly a year ago.
